The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND), Dr Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, has conducted a post-funding verification visit to Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu Paediatric Hospital following the release of over N11 million to support the accreditation of the hospital’s Paediatric Residency Training Programme.
The fund, released on March 12, 2026, under KHETFUND’s 2026 Regular Intervention, was earmarked to facilitate the hospital’s official accreditation for postgraduate paediatric residency training.
Speaking during the visit, Dr Zahraddeen said the verification exercise was aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the utilisation of public funds while strengthening specialist healthcare training in Kano State.
“Our visit today confirms that public resources are being deployed transparently and effectively. By funding this residency accreditation, we are not just supporting a hospital; we are investing in the next generation of paediatricians who will safeguard the health of our children,” she said.
She added that the intervention aligns with the healthcare agenda of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Ministry of Health under the leadership of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, to attract, train and retain qualified medical professionals in the state.
According to her, the intervention also reflects the state government’s development priorities under the “Kano First Agenda.”
“KHETFUND remains committed to providing sustainable financing mechanisms that will address critical funding gaps in the state’s healthcare system,” she said.
The Chief Medical Director of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu Paediatric Hospital, Dr Safiya Gambo, commended KHETFUND for supporting the institution’s efforts to strengthen postgraduate medical training.
She described the intervention as a demonstration of the impact of structured healthcare financing, noting that the support would enhance the hospital’s capacity to train specialists and improve the quality of paediatric healthcare services.
KHETFUND was established to provide sustainable and additional funding for the health sector, with the mandate to bridge resource gaps and support healthcare institutions across Kano State through strategic interventions aimed at improving service delivery.
