The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, has commended the quality of ongoing projects under the World Bank-supported Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme in Kano State.
The Minister gave the commendation during an inspection visit to selected project sites, including WTC Kano and GGSS Dukawuya, where she assessed the progress of work being executed under the programme.
While expressing satisfaction with the standard of work so far, Professor Ahmad directed contractors handling some of the projects to address identified gaps and ensure strict compliance with required specifications for quality delivery.
She also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the AGILE initiative, describing it as a critical intervention aimed at expanding access to quality education for the girl-child and strengthening learning opportunities nationwide.
The Minister further expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded her during the visit.
Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, disclosed that the state government would renovate about 300 public schools under the AGILE programme. He also revealed plans to construct 49 new girls’ schools across the state’s 484 wards to further enhance access to education for girls.
Makoda commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising the education sector and committing significant resources to improving learning infrastructure and outcomes in the state.
He also thanked the Minister for visiting Kano to inspect the AGILE projects and for her continued support towards strengthening the education sector.
The AGILE project is a World Bank-supported intervention aimed at improving secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls through better infrastructure, increased access, and empowerment programmes.
