The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appointed the Chairman of the Benue State Football Association, Chief Dr Paul Edeh, Esq., as a member of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The appointment was formalised during a visit to Edeh in Abuja by the SWAN President, Mr Isaiah Kemje Benjamin, in company of the Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Victor Okonkwo, where the BoT badge was presented to him.
In a statement signed by Okonkwo, Benjamin said the appointment was unanimously endorsed by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
“We are here on behalf of the National Executive Committee and SWAN members across Nigeria and in the diaspora to formally present this badge to you. Your appointment was unanimously endorsed in recognition of your longstanding support and contributions to the growth and development of SWAN,” Benjamin said.
Benjamin also commended Edeh for his contributions to the association, particularly his role in conceiving the SWAN 60th Diamond Jubilee anniversary.
In his response, Edeh urged the SWAN leadership to prioritise the construction of its National Secretariat as a lasting legacy for the current administration.
“No matter what you do in leadership, if you don’t leave a legacy, you will come back to the same circle again,” he said.
He said the secretariat project, estimated at N2bn, remains a defining project capable of giving the association a permanent home and strengthening its institutional identity.
“The secretariat is one project that can define this administration and give future generations something to remember you by,” Edeh added.
Edeh congratulated Benjamin, Okonkwo and other NEC members on their return for another three-year term, describing it as a vote of confidence in their leadership.
The SWAN President said the association expects the BoT to provide guidance and support to the national leadership on issues affecting its progress.
“We expect members of the Board of Trustees to provide advice and guidance whenever the leadership requires your intervention, particularly on matters affecting the progress of SWAN,” he said.
Benjamin disclosed that plans are underway to establish a common communication platform for BoT members to strengthen engagement and ensure their experience contributes meaningfully to SWAN’s development.
