A domestic disagreement over personal belongings has left a 30-year-old man fighting for his life in Bauchi State, after his 18-year-old wife reportedly attacked him with a knife.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in Lirr Bajar, Dass Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the trouble began when Fatima Dalha confronted her husband over money, wrappers and a mobile phone. She claimed the items were in his possession and demanded that they be returned.
What followed was a heated exchange that soon escalated into a physical confrontation.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said the disagreement became violent, with Fatima reportedly picking up a knife nearby and stabbing her husband in the stomach.
The man collapsed with serious injuries, leaving people in the neighbourhood alarmed by what had happened.
But the situation was far from over.
As news of the incident spread, an angry crowd gathered and threatened to attack Fatima. Police officers attached to the Dass Division quickly arrived at the scene and rescued her before the crowd could carry out its threat.
While officers secured the suspect, her injured husband was rushed to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment. His condition was reported to be serious, and he was still fighting for his life according to the police account.
The police have since detained Fatima for investigation. Officers also recovered the knife reportedly used in the attack.
The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a more detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence among young couples. He urged partners experiencing disagreements to seek help from family members, community elders or lawful authorities rather than resorting to physical violence.
He also cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that the suspect must be handled through proper legal procedures.
For now, investigators are working to establish the full circumstances of the confrontation, while the injured man continues to receive medical care.
A dispute over money, a phone and clothing has now resulted in a serious injury, a police investigation and the threat of mob violence. The next steps will depend on the evidence gathered by detectives and the outcome of the investigation.
