The Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has conducted a post-funding verification exercise at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH) to assess the utilisation of medical equipment procured through its intervention programme.
The verification team confirmed that diagnostic and therapeutic equipment purchased with the fund had been delivered, installed and put into use at the hospital.
KHETFUND had, under its 2025 Regular Intervention Programme, disbursed ₦48 million to the hospital on October 9, 2025, for the procurement of an ultrasound scanning machine, an autoclave machine and a baby incubator.
Speaking after the verification exercise, the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, represented by the Director of Special Duties, Hamisu Abubakar, said the agency remained committed to ensuring accountability in the use of public funds.
She said the successful deployment of the equipment reflected the agency’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state.
“Our mandate at KHETFUND is to ensure that every naira allocated to state health facilities translates into measurable improvements in patient care. The successful acquisition and operation of this equipment represent another milestone in our mission to strengthen healthcare services,” she said.
She added that the agency would continue to carry out post-funding monitoring to ensure sustainability and value for money.
The Chief Medical Director of MAWTH, Prof. Hadiza Sa’id, commended KHETFUND for the intervention, saying the equipment had improved service delivery at the hospital.
According to her, the new ultrasound machine and baby incubator have reduced patient waiting time and enhanced maternal, neonatal and child healthcare services.
“This intervention has significantly strengthened our clinical operations. Our maternal and child health units are now better equipped to respond to emergencies with greater precision. We appreciate KHETFUND for its continued support,” she said.
KHETFUND said the verification exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to improve healthcare infrastructure and ensure effective utilisation of public investments in the health sector.
The agency added that similar monitoring exercises would be carried out in other beneficiary health facilities across the state.
