The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has commended one of its officers, Naziru Alhassan Madobi, whose courage and persistence led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of a suspected member of a car theft syndicate in Kano.
The incident occurred on Thursday night at an event centre along Lawan Danbazau Road, near the former Inspector General of Police’s residence in Kano metropolis.
According to KAROTA, the officer had completed his official duty and stopped at Aliko Filling Station, where fuel attendants informed him that a suspect had allegedly stolen a vehicle parked at the event centre. The attendants, who first noticed the incident, said they attempted to stop the suspect, but he managed to start the vehicle and sped away.
Acting swiftly, Madobi pursued the suspect through Gandun Albasa, the Bashir Tofa area, Baba Ahmed University Road, Sharada, A.A. Rano Filling Station, and Dan Agundi/Rumfa College Road. During the chase, the suspect reportedly drove recklessly, knocking down several passers-by before eventually losing control and crashing the stolen vehicle into a culvert near Tukuntawa Cemetery.

With the assistance of residents, the suspect was apprehended. Although an angry crowd attempted to lynch him, the KAROTA officer intervened, rescued the suspect, and immediately alerted officers at Sharada Police Station, who took him into custody for further investigation.
Speaking on the incident, Madobi disclosed that preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect, said to be from Bauchi State, is allegedly linked to a car theft syndicate. The investigation, he added, has reportedly led to the recovery of several other stolen vehicles associated with the group.
Reacting to the development, the Managing Director of KAROTA, Hon. Faisal Mahmud Kabir, praised Madobi for his exceptional bravery, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
He said the agency would continue to recognise and reward officers who demonstrate commitment and excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Managing Director also urged other personnel to emulate Madobi’s exemplary conduct in the service of the agency and the public.
Also commenting, Hon. Habibu Baballe Ila, husband of the owner of the recovered vehicle, expressed appreciation to the KAROTA officer for his patriotism and thanked the agency’s management for instilling discipline and professionalism among its personnel.
