The Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to provide emergency assistance to farmers and other residents affected by a heavy downpour in Shuwaki Town, Tudun Wada Local Government Area.
The appeal was made during the Assembly’s plenary session, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
The rainfall reportedly destroyed more than 200 rice farms belonging to local farmers and caused the collapse of a historic bridge along the Tudun Wada–Shuwaki Road.
Presenting a motion before the House, the member representing Tudun Wada Constituency, Hon. Sule Lawan Shuwaki, said the heavy rainfall on Thursday affected approximately 200 rice farms in the area.
He said the collapse of the bridge had disrupted transportation, particularly for students, and negatively affected the socio-economic activities of residents.
The lawmaker called on the state government to provide relief materials to the affected farmers and other victims of the flooding.
He also urged the government to reconstruct the damaged bridge and rehabilitate the affected road to alleviate the hardship faced by residents.
The motion was seconded by the member representing Gezawa Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Yahaya Tsamiyar Kara.
