Barely four days after the people of Diso quarters in Gwale local government area found themselves in critical conditions as a result of suspected vandals who took away the armoured cables of an electric transformer costing over N1.5m.
The chairman of the transformer’s committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Aminu Kofar Naisa, said they have reported the incident to the KEDCO office at Tal’udu but stated they can’t do anything due to the unavailability of spare parts in their offices but promised to send a report to their main office in Abuja.
They advised the community to take responsibility for repairing the transformer with immediate effect before it deteriorates into a dilapidated condition.
In view of this development, Ibrahim Kofar Naisa appealed to the members of the House of Representatives of Gwale Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Garba Diso, and member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulmajid Ibrahim, Mai Rigar Fata, and the well-to-do in the society to come to their aid, due to the approaching holy month of Ramadan and to avoid the possibility of a cholera outbreak.
The chairman also urged the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, state vigilantes to step up efforts by providing utmost security to curb the menace of vandalizing transformers in the metropolis.
He explained that “we have a report that thieves have vandalized about 17 electric transformers in different quarters within the metropolis, indicating an alarming increase in the menace.” Garba added.
Abubakar Sa’id and Sa’diq Diso highlighted that the majority of the people of Diso, Lokon Makera, Sagagi, Gwale, and Kofar Naisa depend on boreholes while boreholes could no longer function without electricity, appealing for the government to come to their aid.
