Atletico Madrid Gaffer,Diego Simeone says they are as good as making it to the next round of this year’s champions league.
The Tactician was speaking shortly after his Lads narrowly lost to closed door neighbours Real Madrid in the first leg of round of sixteen of the yearly event last night by two goals to one.
He explained that nothing will stop them from condemning their rivals when they meet next week to determine who would move to the final eight.
The Argentine posited that what he was praying for was for a slim margin in the first leg and so it happened as the match did not end by three goals to one.
He maintained that they will try their best with a view to defeating their opponents hands down which will give them an ample opportunity to play in the quarter final.
It would be recalled that defending champions Real Madrid whipped Atletico by two goals to one courtesy of Rodrygo and Moroccan import Brahimi Diaz while Julian Alvarez reduced the tally by a goal during the fierce encounter played in the heart of Spanish capital Madrid.
In other matches also played last night, Arsenal pipped Psv Eindhoven by seven goal to one in far away Netherlands to make the return leg a mere formality.
Also another England representatives Aston Villa playing on away soil ,got the upper hand in their tie against Club Brugge of Belgium as they thrashed them by three goals to one.
The event will proceed this night with another set of matches.
