A Federal High Court sitting in Court Road, Kano, has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Hajiya Aisha Amart against the Kano State Censorship Board, the lawsuit aimed at halting the Censorship Board from intervening in company’s involvement with film copyright and downloading activities in Kano. This actions have been a source of contention between the Kano State Censorship Board and the company for several years.
In his ruling, Hon. Justice Simon A. Amobeda stated that the court lacked jurisdiction to adjudicate the substantive matter, and therefore, Hajiya Amart’s lawsuit has been dismissed.
It is clear that the owner of Amart Enterprises, Hajiya Aisha Amart, has been in conflict with the Kano State Censorship Board since the Association of Kano Film Downloaders raised concerns about the company’s disruptive operations to ES, Abba El-mustapha. The company had failed to adhere to an agreement with the board, which led to the failure to resolve the issue without the intervention of the court.
Speaking shortly after court’s decision, Alh. Abba El-mustapha, expressed his satisfaction with the ruling where he reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the interests of all stakeholders, particularly the voiceless, and ensuring compliance with the law.
Abba El-mustapha has further emphasized that his administration would not tolerate any actions that undermine the law, regardless of personal relationships or affiliations.
He called on all stakeholders to adhere to the law and to provide their full support and cooperation in advancing the Kannywood film industry and achieving its goals.
