The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (Kan-Invest), Muhammad Naziru Halliru, met with Cynthia Rowe, UK Development Director in Nigeria, at the British High Commission in Abuja. The meeting was held alongside the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, the Partnership for Agile Governance & Climate Engagement (PACE) project team, and other key stakeholders.
The high-level engagement explored strategic areas of collaboration to strengthen Kano State’s investment portfolio in climate action, with a particular focus on the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO) interest in supporting the State’s Multi-Sectoral Investment Strategic Plan (MSISP), Climate Change Policy, and the recently concluded Waste-to-Wealth: A Multibillion Naira Circular Economy Imperative for Kano strategy.
The proposed support from the FCDO will include global advocacy, resource mobilization, and technical assistance aimed at unlocking sustainable growth opportunities in the circular economy, climate finance, and climate resilience investments.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Halliru said:
“Kano is ready for transformative climate investments. We have the policies, the people, and the potential to turn environmental challenges into economic opportunities. Our doors are open to genuine investors who want to partner with us in building a greener, wealthier, and more resilient Kano State.”
He further appealed to both local and foreign investors to take advantage of the State’s enabling environment, strategic location, and government support to invest in sustainable ventures that will yield long-term economic and environmental benefits.
This partnership aligns with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to position Kano State as a leading propeller for ease of doing business and environmentally sustainable investments.
