The Kano State Government has organised a three-day special capacity-building workshop for Directors in the State Civil Service.
The workshop, held in Zaria, Kaduna State, themed “Anti-Corruption, Financial Prudence, Transformational Leadership, and Ethical Values” has brought together Directors from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across Kano State.
Declaring the workshop open, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said the programme was designed as a practical guide, built on foundational pillars critical to effective leadership, with emphasis on discipline, performance, and accountability.
The Governor, who was represented by the Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, noted that the workshop aims to promote strategic stability and balance in governance through the application of emotional intelligence in administrative decision-making.
He explained that the capacity-building initiative was intended to equip participants with the ability to balance competing interests, manage complex relationships, and demonstrate empathy qualities that distinguish a good leader from a truly transformational one.
Governor Yusuf reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government to upholding the principles of integrity, prudence, and strict fiduciary responsibility, which he described as the core benchmarks for public conduct and institutional management in the state.
He further urged participants to be fully committed and actively engaged throughout the workshop, stressing that the programme should serve as a launchpad for a new era of ethical, efficient, and high-performing governance across all government agencies and institutions.
Papers presented at the workshop include: “Integrity and Transparency as Guiding Principles in the New Leadership: A Reflection of Kano State Civil Service” by Malam Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa; “The Impact of Organisational Values on Institutional Strengthening as It Relates to KNSG” by Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Gusau.
Others are “Ethical Concerns and Service Delivery in Kano State, Nigeria: The Role of Public Institutions” by Professor Mutiullah Adebayo Olasupo; and “Inculcating Financial Prudence, Anti-Corruption, Leadership and Ethical Values in Kano State” by the Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Alhaji Sa’idu Yahaya.
