The Kano State Government has been made aware of media reports and public claims that a recent directive by His Excellency, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, instructing Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to temporarily halt forwarding files to his office, has “grounded public administration” in the state.
The government wishes to state clearly that this assertion is incorrect, misleading, and lacks factual or legal basis.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Musa Tanko Muhammad, Press Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The directive was issued in late December, when the state’s Appropriation Law for the outgoing fiscal year was nearing expiration, and the 2025 Budget was still under legislative consideration.
This was a prudent measure to prevent unauthorized expenditures, avoid illegal financial commitments, and shield the state from future audit queries and legal liabilities.
Government operations have continued uninterrupted, with essential services like security, healthcare, education, sanitation, and other public services remaining fully functional under existing statutory provisions. The directive merely paused new discretionary matters pending further guidance aligned with the new fiscal framework.
This measure strengthens institutional governance by ensuring MDAs operate within their lawful mandates and discourages the end-of-year rush for approvals that often undermines transparency and fiscal discipline.
The Kano State Government finds it unfortunate that a lawful decision has been misrepresented as administrative stagnation. The action reflects foresight, discipline, and respect for the rule of law. The public is assured that upon conclusion of ongoing reviews, directives will be issued to guide the next phase of executive operations.
The administration remains committed to transparency, effective service delivery, and prudent management of public resources in the best interest of Kano State.
