An informed military source told Tasnim on Thursday that amid growing speculation about a possible U.S. ground invasion of southern Iran—described by the source as a “historic miscalculation”—there has been a surge of enthusiasm among Iranian ground forces to mount strong resistance on Iranian territory.
According to the source, more than one million fighters have been organized for potential ground combat. In recent days, recruitment centers affiliated with the Basij, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the Iranian Army have reportedly seen a significant influx of volunteers, particularly among youth seeking to participate.
“The U.S. may attempt to open the Strait of Hormuz through risky and self-destructive tactics. We are prepared both for such a scenario and to ensure the Strait remains closed,” the source said.
The escalation follows reports that the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military campaign against Iran after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28.
The reported attacks have included extensive airstrikes targeting both military and civilian sites across Iran, resulting in casualties and significant infrastructure damage.
In response, Iranian Armed Forces have reportedly carried out retaliatory operations, targeting U.S. and Israeli positions in the region with waves of missiles and drones.
