Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has laid the foundation for the construction of a secondary school in Kaura Goge, Nasarawa Local Government Area.
The project is intended to replace the former Maikwatashi School, which had fallen into disrepair and was partly encroached upon and allegedly sold off.
Speaking at the event, the governor said the new school would address the challenges faced by students in the area who currently travel long distances, including to Sabon Gari, to access education.
“There are many students in this community who have to go as far as Sabon Gari for schooling. This project is aimed at bringing education closer to them,” he said.
Governor Yusuf also disclosed that the Maikwatashi School has been handed over to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies for educational use.
He urged residents to support the project and called on the contractor to ensure quality work.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, said the project would cost N1.3 billion. He added that the school would include 32 classrooms, 36 toilets, four libraries, and other facilities.
Makoda described the project as a fulfillment of the governor’s promise to improve educational infrastructure in the state.
