Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has condemned the conduct of some youths who displayed inappropriate behaviour during the recent official visit of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
The Governor dissociated himself, his administration, and the people of Kano State from the incident, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the values of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, following the Third Special Prayer for Lasting Peace held at the Government House on Sunday.
According to the statement, 4,444 Quranic reciters gathered at the event to seek divine intervention for peace, stability and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria.
Governor Yusuf expressed deep disappointment over the incident, describing it as a deviation from the principles of the administration’s Kano First Agenda. He stressed that such behaviour contradicts the teachings of Islam, which emphasise modesty, discipline and respect for authority.
The Governor said those responsible had been invited and warned against any recurrence of actions capable of tarnishing the image of the state.
He also cautioned politicians against influencing youths negatively for political gain, urging leaders to promote responsible conduct.
“Our youths should be symbols of hope and development, not instruments of mockery or moral decline,” the Governor said. “I call on political leaders to lead by example, avoid divisive rhetoric, and focus on policies that advance the Kano First Agenda.”
Governor Yusuf further urged those involved to seek forgiveness from God and tender an apology to the people of Kano State for the embarrassment caused.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining Kano’s reputation as a centre of discipline, hospitality and religious devotion, while strengthening youth mentorship and preserving the state’s cultural heritage.
In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, represented by Alhaji Aliyu Harazumi, assured that the emirate would continue to organise Quranic recitations to promote lasting peace in the state.
Several Islamic scholars who spoke at the event also emphasised the need for moral discipline and unity. They included Sheikh Nasir Kabara, Sheikh Ali Dan Abba, Sheikh Jamilu Al-Qadiri, Sheikh Bala Kalarawi, Professor Abdallah Pakistan, and Sheikh Maihula.
