The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended two Kannywood celebrities, Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba, from all filming activities in the state for one year over the release of what it described as an immoral video.
The board said the video generated tension within communities across Kano State and violated the state’s censorship regulations.
In a statement issued over the weekend by the board’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the affected actors were barred from participating in any filming activities within the state during the suspension period.
The statement noted that the board has the legal authority to sanction any actor or actress found violating censorship laws in Kano State, warning that any breach of the suspension order could attract legal consequences, including court sanctions.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, cautioned Kannywood stakeholders against actions capable of tarnishing the image and reputation of the industry.
He also called on directors, producers and other stakeholders to comply strictly with the suspension order, stressing that violators would face appropriate punishment in accordance with the law.
The statement was signed by Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the board.
