The League for Societal Protection Against Drug Abuse (LESPADA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a healthier and drug-free society through sustained sensitisation and community engagement across Kano State.
As part of efforts to curb drug abuse, the organisation intensified awareness and mobilisation campaigns targeting youths in secondary schools and public spaces across the state. The initiative is aimed at promoting responsible behaviour and building a decent, drug-free society.
LESPADA has continued visits to post-primary institutions where students are educated on the dangers of drug abuse, with emphasis on safeguarding the future of young people and ensuring proper guidance for a better tomorrow.
Speaking during one of the sensitisation programmes, the Executive Director of LESPADA, Ambassador Maryam Hassan, urged parents and guardians to closely monitor the movements and activities of their children to ensure a safer environment.
She said the campaign, themed “The Truth About Drugs,” featured the distribution of educational booklets designed to enlighten students on the harmful effects of substance abuse.
According to her, the organisation has also facilitated the establishment of Drug-Free Clubs in schools and institutions to promote sustained peer-to-peer awareness and advocacy against drug abuse.
LESPADA further called on stakeholders to pay closer attention to children’s activities during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir festivities to prevent exposure to drug-related activities during the celebration period.
The organisation also felicitated with the Muslim Ummah ahead of the Sallah celebrations and commended the Kano State Government for supporting initiatives aimed at combating drug abuse.
It, however, urged continued collaboration among relevant stakeholders to strengthen the fight against drug abuse among young people in the state.
