The Residents of Damagari Community in Zoza Ward, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, have appealed to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to expedite the commissioning and opening of the newly renovated Kaleku Hospital, describing the facility as a vital healthcare lifeline for thousands of people across the area.
The appeal follows the successful completion of the rehabilitation and renovation of the hospital by the Rogo Local Government Council. The facility had previously suffered structural damage after heavy rainfall washed away parts of the building, rendering it unfit for effective service delivery.
In response to the situation, the Chairman of Rogo Local Government Council, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha Rogo, directed the immediate restoration and renovation of the affected sections, ensuring that the hospital was fully rehabilitated and ready for operation.
Speaking through the Local Government Information Officer, Abdu Bako Abdullahi, ANIPR, the Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery throughout the local government area.
He noted that investment in the health sector remains one of the administration’s key priorities, aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality, expanding access to quality healthcare services, and improving the overall wellbeing of residents.
Community members, including Malam Abubakar Abubakar and Sabi’u Adamu, commended the Chairman for his prompt intervention and determination to complete the long-delayed project.
They expressed concern that further delays in commissioning the hospital could expose the facility to deterioration caused by weather conditions, thereby jeopardizing the substantial public resources invested in its rehabilitation.
According to the residents, the hospital project had remained abandoned for several years despite being initiated by previous administrations. However, upon assuming office, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha Rogo revived the project and oversaw extensive renovation works valued at over ₦60 million, transforming the facility into a modern healthcare centre capable of meeting the growing healthcare needs of the population.
The residents emphasized that the opening of the hospital would significantly ease the burden on patients who currently travel long distances to access medical services. They added that the facility is strategically located to serve not only communities within Rogo Local Government Area but also neighbouring settlements from Kaduna and Katsina States, as well as Gangarbi, Mahuta, Kafur, Karaye, and other surrounding communities.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Sabi’u Adamu described the continued closure of the hospital as a major challenge, particularly for women, children, and the elderly. He called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to urgently facilitate the commencement of healthcare services at the facility.
The people of Damagari expressed optimism that the Governor’s timely intervention would bring relief to thousands of residents and further demonstrate the Kano State Government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and promoting rural development.
