Demonstration be it peaceful or otherwise is being staged to press home demands of the larger society on certain burning issues that have been itching their minds for long
Thus when it was held the aim is to put Government on it toes in order to withdraw some of its unfavourable or draconian policies with a view to bringing succour or in other words relief to the oppressed
These ideally are some of the basic reasons behind organising such protest in an enlightened community
But one could wonder that the recent protest in the country tagged badgovernance which caused wanton destruction of lives and properties in most parts of the country fell short of attaining such important goal as it was the case in some African countries most of recent east African nation of Kenya
It was highly lamentable that the action undertook did not stop those on the reigns of power from proceeding with their repressive policies geared towards worsening the well being of commoners but rather encourage them with a view to becoming bold, fearless and above all tenacious in taking decisions they feel were right without due regard to the end result among the citizenry
This comprise the increase in pump price of fuel nationwide continued devaluation of local currency, likewise hike in the prices of food items,groceries endless electricity tariff and other charges imposed basic necessities of live by the Government elected by the electorate
But what led to the failure of achieving such significant objective as the case was in other climes
To some analysts they attributed the fiasco to lack of proper planning, awareness and proper coordination between the organizers of the protest and rest of the people
While to others they ascribed it to how envy and jealousy that has eaten deep in the flesh of countrymen and women made good intentions impractical to achieve spelt out successes
To other school of thought they related the situation to inability of the organizers to appoint a leader that would champion their good cause
But to some , they described the reason to how some miscreants disguised during the protest to steal innocent citizens belongings which was a crystal clear diversion from the initial aim of the demonstration which was meant to be peaceful
In this context, there is the need for the wider society to always uphold unity and understanding and learn how best to keep aside their religious selfish and tribal differences whenever it comes to issues of national interest in order to achieve optimum result as it is a well known fact that certain communities across the universe that have become models achieved their mark through coming together for a certain cause regardless of their multi dimensional differences as a wise word says united we stand divided we fall.
