It delights me the most to hear about the quick response by Kano NUJ towards the institution of a three man committee to mediate over the recent squabble between Kano Pillars tactician Abdul Maikaba and some sports writers notable among them veteran Malikawa Garu at Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata during their match with visiting Enugu Rangers which the body reacted by staying clear of the Club’s organized activities
Unequivocally, this step is what supposed to be taken by the outfit particularly in a tense situation that involves some of it members
Devoid of contemplation, whenever a matter like this occurred the NuJ being a body established to defend the right of journalists wherever they are needs to sit up aimed at finding out the root cause of the incident and how best to normalise the issue once and all
Thus, the state leadership, should be saluted for taking the bull by the horn as in any given circumstances , the work of the elderly is always to ensure peace and concord prevails in his environment not minding whether he is aware or otherwise
On the other hand the three individuals appointed for the job are people that based on my knowledge will conduct the assignment beyond reasonable doubt in view of their track records
For instance the Chairman Abdullahi Yusuf is a reputable journalist that worked with NAN before calling it quit recently while AbdulGaffar Oladimeji Esq a legal practitioner by profession has been in sports industry for decades likewise Salma Yusuf of Freedom Radio who is the mouthpiece of Falconets to sum it up they all know the nuts and bolts of the entire situation
As the committee is expected to commence it’s sitting anytime from now it is our wholehearted wish that the warring parties would try to understand that nothing will be attained in a state of disharmony as such act is the work of devil
Thus as it has been said times without number sports and media could never be parted as they need each support to blossom
Abdul Maikaba being a friend of the pen profession and sports writer Sarki as Malikawa Garu is fondly called, as consummate people of matured minds should exercise restraint over the unfortunate incident which led to the boycot of post match press conference during the club’s tie with Sporting of Lagos and other subsequent activities of the team as the Associations pronounced in due course for the good interest of the state and the growth of the round leather game
Finding lasting situation over the rift before it degenerate as the NUJ has pledged will surely boost its image and above all integrity as a solid and bold outfit
