Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has said he lived in a friend’s house throughout his eight-year tenure in office, maintaining that he did not own a personal residence while serving as governor.
Aregbesola made the disclosure in a video shared with his supporters, where he reflected on his years in government and the principles that guided his administration.
He claimed to be the first governor in Nigeria to complete two terms in office without owning a personal house.
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” he said.
The former governor challenged anyone disputing his claim to produce evidence of any property allegedly owned by him during or after his tenure.
“I lived in my friend’s house for eight years as governor in my father’s land. If anyone says what I’m saying is not true, let the person come forward and show Nigerians the house I own,” he added.
Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018 before his appointment as Minister of Interior under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said his administration prioritised the welfare of residents through policies aimed at reducing poverty, unemployment and hunger.
