Residents of Ayaga town in Rogo Ruma Ward of Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State have called on the state government to urgently intervene in the deteriorating condition of their community primary school.
The appeal followed growing concerns over the poor state of infrastructure at Ayaga Primary School, where pupils reportedly learn in unsafe conditions due to lack of basic facilities.
Speaking with the Information Officer of the council, Abdu Bako Abdullahi, community members described the school as dilapidated and unfit for learning. The Ward Head, Malam Hamisu Abdullahi, said the school lacks essential structures, including roofing, doors and windows.
He added that the absence of classroom furniture has forced pupils to take lessons under trees, a situation he described as worrisome, especially as the rainy season approaches.
“We are appealing to the Kano State Government to urgently intervene and improve the condition of the school,” he said.
Other residents, including Hamisu Tanga Ayaga and Ibrahim Mai Nama, also expressed dissatisfaction with the situation and urged the government to approve immediate renovation of the school.
The Headmaster, Ibrahim Isma’il, said despite previous inspections, no concrete action had been taken to address the challenges.
He called on the authorities to rehabilitate the school and provide a conducive learning environment for pupils.
The community also commended local government officials for their support and appealed for their continued efforts in conveying their concerns to the state government.
