The Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission (KSSC), Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, has reaffirmed the board’s commitment to improving the performance of the state’s athletes at national and international competitions.
Babangida made the pledge during the formal handover ceremony held at the commission’s headquarters in Kano.
The event was attended by board members and management staff of the commission, who witnessed the smooth transition of leadership.
He said the recent performances of Kano Pillars Basketball Club and Kano Pillars Volleyball Club in Nigeria’s top-flight leagues reflected the commitment of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the development of sports in the state.
According to him, the commission is well-positioned to achieve greater success with the calibre of its board members, the support of the state government and the dedication of stakeholders.
He urged athletes, coaches and organising secretaries to remain committed to their responsibilities in order to sustain Kano State’s impressive performances at competitions within and outside the country.
Babangida, who previously served in various capacities at both the state and federal government levels, also called on stakeholders, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to partner with the commission to complement the state government’s efforts in promoting and developing sports across the state.
Earlier, the outgoing Acting Chairman of the commission, Dr Murtala Musa, thanked the management staff, athletes, coaches and organising secretaries for their support during his tenure. He urged them to extend the same cooperation to the new leadership to enable it achieve its objectives.
The handover ceremony marked the beginning of a new phase for the commission as it continues its mandate of nurturing sporting talents and positioning Kano State as a leading force in sports development.
