The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has donated three buses to sports organisations in Kano State to support grassroots development.
The beneficiaries are the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State chapter; Kano State Football Referees Council; and the Nationwide League One (NLO) Kano Forum.
The donation, according to the senator representing Kano North Senatorial District, is aimed at enhancing transportation for sports activities, promoting youth engagement and supporting grassroots sports development.
The announcement was made at the Senate chamber during a courtesy visit by representatives of the beneficiary associations.
The buses are expected to be officially handed over on Saturday by the senator’s Special Adviser on Youth and Sports Development, Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, a former commissioner for youth and sports.
Reacting, the Chairman of SWAN Kano, Zahradeen Saleh Yakubu, described the gesture as a major boost that would enhance the association’s coverage of sporting activities across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Similarly, the Chairman of the NLO Kano Forum, Aminu Baba, commended the senator for his continued support for sports development and urged members to remain committed to nurturing young talents.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Kano State Football Referees Council, Auwalu Ali, appreciated the gesture, pledging that the bus would be effectively utilised to improve officiating standards in the state.
