Bridge Connect Africa Initiative (BAGE), Malala fund, an NGO, has charged Civil Society Organisations, (CSOs) and media practitioners, to be advocates of girl child education.
To this end, the NGO has organised capacity building workshop for 50 Civil Society Organisations, media practitioners on gender responsive education budgeting.
Speaking during the workshop in Kano on Thursday, Sani Muhammad, the NGO Executive Director, urged parents to support young girls in their pursuit to attain and complete their education.
Muhammad tasked parents to be good advocates and champion for girl child to complete their education, reminding them that if they finish school, they will support them in several amazing ways.
He said the group educate them on budget tracking, as it concerns girls education, especially those that allows adolescent girls to transition from junior to senior secondary school.
According to him, this will enable them to understand budget in process and key things to look out for in terms of items that concern girl education, including sanitary and hygiene facility for girls in school.
“We want to empower citizens, grassroot champions to be able to monitor money allocated for education and ensure there is transparency, accountability for adolescent girls in school that the funds are been made for,”he said.
Similarly, Abdulazeez Musa, Programme Director for Bridge Personnel Initiative, said that girl child education is one of the most important areas the group focuses on.
“There are disparities despite so much advocacy that have been done on girl child education which we must cover in Kano state, it is more obvious.
“One of the things we do on girl child education advocacy, is meeting with their parents to let them know the importance of sending their girl child to school,”he said.
He also urged government to fulfill their commitment to schools and continue to deliver the community.
