The Nigerian Army’s Supply and Transport Barracks hosted a full-dress pull-out parade on Saturday as Major General Erema Akerejola retired after decades of service. Family, friends, and senior officers gathered under overcast skies to witness the symbolic end-of-tour tradition.
Troops marched in precise review order while a bugler sounded the final call, marking Akerejola’s departure from active duty. Colleagues described the atmosphere as “charged with emotion,” as current and former soldiers paid tribute to a commander remembered for his discipline and firm stance on national unity.
Akerejola, whose postings spanned both logistics and field operations, retires with honours that include counter-insurgency coordination in the North-East and the modernization of transport command strategies. Senior officers described him as “a leader whose courage set the pace for those who followed.”
The ceremony concluded with the traditional slow drive through the ranks, with Akerejola standing in an open-top staff car, acknowledging the men and women who served alongside him. For many in attendance, the parade was more than protocol—it was a public expression of gratitude for a career that spanned the tenures of four Chiefs of Army Staff.
