The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in safeguarding consumers’ interests across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, stated this when he led the management team of the council on a courtesy visit to the NSCDC State Command in Kano.
Dr. Muhammad said the visit was aimed at strengthening cordial working relations between the two agencies towards protecting consumers against health hazards, environmental risks and economic exploitation.
He appealed to the NSCDC command to provide a dedicated enforcement team to support the council in tackling the circulation of illicit drugs, expired goods, contaminated drinks and substandard food items in the state.
Responding, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohd Hassan Agalama, described the visit as a welcome development in the collective effort to protect lives and improve the economic wellbeing of residents of the state.
He noted that protecting citizens and supporting lawful enforcement activities remain part of the statutory responsibilities of the corps.
The commandant further urged the Executive Secretary to always provide adequate notice to the command to ensure prompt and effective response whenever the need arises.
