The Executive Chairman of Dala Local Government Council, Alhaji Suraj Ibrahim Imam, has received members of the Taskforce on Motor Park Monitoring and Anti–Child Trafficking during a courtesy visit to his office.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Major Adamu Abubakar Usman (Rtd.), said the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the committee to the Council Chairman.
He explained that the committee was constituted by the Kano State Government to strengthen security at motor parks and other loading points across the state.
Major Adamu further disclosed that the committee has been mandated to tour motor parks with a view to tackling criminal activities, protecting lives and property, and safeguarding the wellbeing of the general public.
He added that the taskforce will also focus on preventing the trafficking of underage children, who are often taken outside the state or country and subjected to changes in religion and cultural ideology.
According to him, the committee has equally been directed to curb the trafficking and inflow of illicit drugs into Kano State by criminal elements.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of Dala Local Government, Alhaji Suraj Ibrahim Imam, described the issues raised by the committee as genuine challenges confronting Kano State.
He assured the visitors of the council’s readiness to work closely with them to ensure the successful execution of their mandate, stressing that collaboration remains key, as “two heads are better than one.”
He noted that Dala Local Government hosts a major motor park with routes linking several countries, including Niger, Libya, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Ghana.
The Chairman emphasised that the responsibility of addressing these challenges does not rest on the committee alone but requires collective support and cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure success.
Alhaji Suraj Ibrahim Imam also commended members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Kofar Ruwa Motor Park for their vigorous efforts in maintaining order and sanity within the park.
He further advised the business community to consider the installation of scanning and screening machines at motor parks, noting that such measures would significantly reduce the movement of illegal items, enhance security, and create employment opportunities for youths.
