A fire outbreak occurred at the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals company in the Lekki free trade zone on Wednesday morning. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
According to Anthony Chiejina, Group Head of Corporate Communications, the fire was contained at the effluent treatment plant and did not affect operations. “There is no cause for alarm, and no recorded injuries or harm to staff,” he assured.
The 650,000 barrels per day refinery began production in January, supplying diesel and aviation fuel to the local market. The company received additional crude supply from NNPC Ltd in April, boosting its production capacity.
Operations at the refinery continue uninterrupted, with no reported casualties. An investigation into the incident is likely to follow.
