Several prominent members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, including associates of former Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development followed a solidarity visit by the political associates to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Comrade Murtala Sule Garo, amid ongoing political realignments in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The delegation, led by a close ally of Gawuna, Hon. Muhammad Badaru Umar, paid the visit to the governor at the Government House, Kano.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The delegation included Hon. Ali Datti Yako, NDC Vice Chairman in Kano State; Hon. Mansur Isa Gawuna; Hon. Uba Tanko Mijinyawa (Uba Danzainab); Hon. Aminu Umar Faruk; Hon. Sani Jibrin; Hon. Salisu Muhammad; Hon. Musa Sani Indabo; Hon. Muhammad Kabir Bala; Hon. Hassan Abba Abdullahi; and Comrade Abdurrahman Muhammad.
Speaking during the visit, Badaru said the delegation’s decision to meet the governor was driven by its commitment to the development and progress of Kano State.
He said the group considered it necessary to engage with Governor Yusuf and his deputy as part of its consultations and efforts to contribute to the development of the state.
Also speaking, Yako said the people of Kano were aware of the efforts being made by Governor Yusuf to transform the state.
“Everyone knows that Governor Yusuf is working tirelessly to transform Kano State,” he said.
The visit comes against the backdrop of political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections, with several prominent politicians reviewing their political affiliations.
The expected defection of members of Gawuna’s political camp to the APC could further strengthen the party in Kano as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The delegation also expressed solidarity with Governor Yusuf and his deputy, reaffirming its commitment to the continued development and progress of the state.
