Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has emphasised the importance of the Orange Economy as a catalyst for job creation, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic growth.
The governor stated that Kano, with its vast human, creative and entrepreneurial resources, has significant potential to benefit from strategic investments in the Orange Economy, adding that such investments would contribute substantially to economic development in the state and Nigeria at large.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, spoke at a dinner organised to mark the conclusion of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026, study tour of Kano State.
The one-week study tour, which focused on “Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Nigeria”, brought the NIPSS delegation to Kano to assess development programmes, engage stakeholders and examine how the state harnesses its human, creative and entrepreneurial resources.
Governor Yusuf commended NIPSS for its contribution to national development and praised the delegation, led by Brigadier General L.A. Jimoh, mni, for selecting Kano as a focus of its study.
He said the visit provided participants with opportunities to interact with government institutions, traditional rulers, private sector operators and members of the public, as well as visit major cultural sites and markets.
According to him, the engagements offered the delegation valuable insights into Kano’s development realities, economic challenges, rich cultural heritage, hospitality and renowned entrepreneurial spirit.
The governor expressed optimism that the knowledge gained during the study tour would contribute to ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship, creativity and inclusive economic development in the state.
Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Jimoh commended the Kano State Government for its efforts to promote creativity, entrepreneurship and economic expansion.
He described Kano as a major historical and contemporary centre of enterprise, innovation, craftsmanship, trade and human capital, noting that the state’s long history in commerce, textiles, leatherwork, fashion, agriculture, manufacturing and creative expression provides a strong foundation for the growth of the Orange Economy.
The delegation, he added, observed significant potential in traditional crafts, film, media, design, music, publishing, cultural tourism and digital enterprise.
Jimoh specifically highlighted the state government’s revival of 26 entrepreneurship skills training schools, saying the initiative had equipped thousands of young people with vocational skills, working tools and start-up capital support.
He said the initiatives demonstrated the capacity of the Orange Economy to create wealth, empower women and young people, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen Kano’s contribution to the national economy.
Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Suleiman Wali Sani, mni, welcomed the delegation and thanked NIPSS for selecting Kano for the study tour.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Danjuma Mahmoud, expressed appreciation to members of the committee and the NIPSS delegation for what he described as a successful engagement.
The event was attended by government officials, stakeholders and members of the NIPSS delegation.
