Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged Muslims to uphold the teachings, exemplary conduct and values of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in their daily lives.
The governor made the call during the 1448 AH/2026 Maulud celebrations at various Islamic centres (Zawiyyas) across Kano metropolis.
He was represented at the events by his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, who conveyed the governor’s message to the various Islamic communities.
The Zawiyyas visited included those of Sheikh Uba Mandawari; Sheikh Dan’Almajiri Daiba in Rijiyar Lemo; Sheikh Yusuf Makwarari; the late Sheikh Abubakar Ramadan; Sheikh Sani Hassan Kafinga; and Gidan Baba Kusa in Bakin Zuwa.
Governor Yusuf described the Maulud celebration as an opportunity for spiritual reflection and urged Muslims to translate the lessons of the Prophet’s life into actions that promote peace, tolerance, compassion, hospitality and peaceful coexistence.
He also called on leaders at all levels to uphold honesty, patience, fairness and justice in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing that leadership carries a duty to protect the interests and welfare of the people.
The governor urged residents of Kano State to draw inspiration from the Prophet’s teachings on peace, justice, compassion, humility and service to humanity.
He stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding among citizens, irrespective of ethnic, religious or political differences.
Yusuf also urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for the continued peace, stability, progress and prosperity of Kano State and Nigeria.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the standard of living of residents through quality education, improved healthcare, infrastructure and other people-oriented programmes.
He particularly urged parents to intensify efforts towards the moral upbringing of their children and support government initiatives aimed at improving education and tackling social vices.
According to him, schools alone cannot bear the responsibility of raising and moulding young people, as parents have a crucial role to play by providing guidance, discipline and moral values at home.
He encouraged parents to work closely with schools, religious institutions and government to ensure that children grow into responsible and productive members of society.
The governor further urged youths to focus on acquiring quality education, vocational and technical skills, as well as participating in programmes designed to improve their livelihoods and prepare them for the future.
He also called on the economically privileged to support children, women, vulnerable persons, neighbours and other members of society in need, in line with Islamic teachings.
Yusuf commended traditional, religious and community leaders for their contributions to peace, unity and stability in the state, urging them to sustain their efforts.
He also appreciated individuals, organisations and communities that contributed to the success of the Maulud celebrations across the state.
The leaders of the Zawiyyas visited, including Malam Abdulkadir Sheshe, Sheikh Khalifa Yusuf Makwarari, Barrister Habibu Dan’Almajiri Fagge, Sheikh Khalifa Hassan Sani Kafinga and Sheikh Muttaka Abubakar Ramadan, thanked the state government for its support towards the celebrations.
They also prayed for Allah’s guidance and continued success for the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration.
In a related development, the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, on behalf of Governor Yusuf, paid condolence visits to the families of the late Malam Umar Wada of Galadanci Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area and the late Hajiya Mariya Abubakar of Tsamiya Quarters in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
Garo described their deaths as great losses to their families and the Muslim Ummah.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them eternal rest and admit them into Jannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for Allah to grant the bereaved families the strength, patience and fortitude to bear the losses.
