…Deploys 2,000 Personnel, Security Vehicles
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially commissioned the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps at a colourful passing-out parade held on Tuesday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Tuesday.
The newly established corps comprises 2,000 operatives deployed across the state’s 44 local government areas. The personnel include 130 females and 1,870 males, selected to strengthen grassroots security and enhance intelligence gathering.
Governor Yusuf announced that the corps would be adequately equipped to confront major criminal activities such as banditry, drug abuse, thuggery, and other threats to public safety in both urban and rural communities.
As part of the commissioning exercise, the Governor also rolled out 88 Hilux operational vehicles and 440 motorcycles to ensure effective patrols, rapid response, and wider operational coverage by the Neighbourhood Watch operatives.
Addressing members of the corps, Governor Yusuf charged them to remain disciplined, honest, and dedicated to their duties, reminding them that they were recruited to serve and protect their immediate communities.
He reiterated that the security of Kano State remains a top priority of his administration, stressing that peace and stability are essential for economic growth, educational development, and overall social progress.
The Governor further assured residents that his administration would continue to invest in security infrastructure, personnel welfare, and strategic collaboration with conventional security agencies to ensure a safer Kano State.
In his remarks, Katsina State Governor, Malam Umar Dikko Radda, commended the initiative and pledged to collaborate with Kano State in addressing criminal activities, particularly in border communities affected by cross-border crimes.
Governor Radda emphasized that sustained inter-state cooperation is vital to curbing insecurity in the North-West and ensuring lasting peace across the region.
The event was attended by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; the Deputy Governors of Zamfara, Jigawa, and Sokoto states; the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sunusi II; and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi.
Also in attendance were top government officials, traditional rulers, security chiefs, and other stakeholders from within and outside the state.
