Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said the choice of Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor was based on competence and his track record of service.
The governor stated this on Tuesday while presiding over the 39th Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Kano.
He said the decision followed a careful review of several candidates, noting that Garo stood out based on his past performance and capacity to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.
“We tried as much as possible to select someone who can provide matching contributions toward the development of the state,” the governor said.
Governor Yusuf explained that although many names were considered, the government focused on competence, experience and commitment.
“We looked into their past performances, their competency and what they have done for the state before, as well as what they can contribute today. Murtala Sule Garo is a seasoned politician who can make valuable contributions,” he added.
The nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
The governor also commended the Kano State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, for the speedy confirmation of the nominee. He said Garo would soon be sworn in and urged stakeholders to support him in delivering on his mandate.
Governor Yusuf further congratulated the newly appointed Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, describing her contributions in the civil service as significant. He called on civil servants and stakeholders to support her in her new role.
Meanwhile, the governor received 39 excellence awards from various organisations within and outside the state in recognition of his administration’s achievements.
One of the awards included a donation of N30,000 from a primary school teacher in appreciation of the government’s efforts in improving education.
