The Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area, Dr. Mani Tsoho Gwarzo, has launched the Abba Gida-Gida Fertiliser Sales Scheme aimed at providing subsidised fertiliser to farmers to boost agricultural productivity and improve food security.
Speaking at the launch held at the Islamic Centre in Gwarzo on Tuesday, the chairman commended Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for introducing the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would reduce farmers’ production costs and support agricultural development across the state.
Dr. Tsoho said Gwarzo Local Government, which comprises 10 political wards, received an allocation of 1,800 bags of fertiliser that would be distributed fairly among the wards to ensure genuine farmers benefit from the programme.
He urged members of the Fertiliser Sales Committee to discharge their duties with honesty, transparency and fairness, warning that the council would not tolerate favouritism, diversion of fertiliser or any other form of malpractice during the distribution exercise.
The chairman also encouraged farmers to make effective use of the subsidised fertiliser to increase crop yields, noting that the Kano State Government remains committed to promoting agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth and food sufficiency.
The event was attended by the District Head of Gwarzo, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Gwarzo; the Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tutar Kano; representatives of security agencies; the Head of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department of Gwarzo Local Government; and members of the Fertiliser Sales Committee.
Dr. Tsoho added that security agencies would monitor the distribution process to ensure transparency and guarantee that the fertiliser reaches the intended beneficiaries.
