A strategic Community mobilization and sensitization has been identified as a key factor in attitudinal and behavioral changes in the society

This was disclosed by Programme Officer of Health and development support Programme Abraham Danjuma Ogande during advocacy and sensitizations Campaign at Harbor Tsohuwa in Jahun local government and Tsakuwawa in Miga local government areas of Jigawa State which was sponsored by HANDS/CBMI through BMZ Project.

Abraham Danjuma implored the participants to use what they learned efficiently and effectively and as well step down the knowledge to others in their respective communities with a view to promote their health being especially sight and vision.

The Campaign dwelt heavily on topical issues of maintaining eyesight and the necessary diets to improve people sight

Abraham Danjuma further adviced the participants to stick to greeny leaves, balance diets which are rich in vitamins to keep their vision intact, pointing out that “we now have all these greeny leaves around us especially in rainy season like this,as such you should strive hard to have access to these leaves as gateway to keep your sight cleared”

Abraham Danjuma thanks the participants for attending the Campaign despite their tight schedules and assured them that HANDS/BMZ would continue to impact their lives positively through series of advocacy and sensitizations as well as medications and consultations at different Health Institutions in the State.

On his Part Titus Peter a Programme Officer of Health and development support Programme,Jigawa Project Office, said the campaign is part of their normal routine to ensure every citizen has access to health care services especially on eyes and sight consultations, operations and advice.

Titus Peter, urged the participants to use what they learned judiciously and to inform others on this development.

He stressed that the Project would continue to tour round the major communities with aim of changing the narrative for the betterment of the people in the State.

During the Campaign series of papers were presented which heavily dwelt on maintaining eyes sight and management as well as necessary intake of diets to keep eyes health at all the times

Equally the Participants were warned seriously against the use of harmful traditional eyes practices which they said is doing more harm than good.

As they were advised and encouraged to seek for scientifically proven modern medicine to reduce blindness burden.

The presenters emphasized on cataract conditions that usually led to gradual loss of vision, where they urged the participants to seek medical attention in any of the General Hospitals across the five Emirates and other service providers at different Health Institutions in the State stressing that poor vision can be managed and diagnosed in the early stage.

They also call on the general public who are having difficulty in reading tiny prints seeing far or close objects and blurry vision to report instantly to any nearby Health facility for prompt medical attention, pointing out that one of the key factor of restoring someones vision is to avoid buying and using eyeglasses without specialist prescription which do more harm than good.

The Presenters salutes the people of the State for their usual consultation and phone calls whenever they have problems with their eyes

Titus Peter thanks the Jigawa State government for its unwavering support to the well-being of the people and pledged to partner with the incumbent administration of Umar Namadi through Ministry of Health for the overall developments of the State.

In their separate remarks,Saleh Muhammad and Yahaya Yusuf of Neglected Tropical Diseases Unit in the Ministry of Health,Jigawa State expressed gratitude to the HANDS/BMZ/CBMI for impacting the lives of the people in the State and assured the Project Coordinators that the Ministry would continue to identify with them in this direction.
