1. The former ally of the late President Muhammadu Buhari and a close associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima has dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu influenced Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision to defect from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
2. Speaking on Trust TV on January 23, ahead of Governor Yusuf’s official move to the APC, Galadima said the pressure on the Kano State governor to abandon Kwankwaso began just three months into his administration.
3. According to Galadima, the push did not come from the presidency but from some of the governor’s close associates within his own government, who urged him to distance himself from Kwankwaso and the NNPP.
4. He noted that Governor Yusuf remained loyal to Kwankwaso longer than expected before eventually yielding to the pressure.
5. “Abba was declared governor of Kano, and three months into his tenure, many of his friends started pressuring him to abandon Kwankwaso.
6. They themselves had already abandoned Kwankwaso. Personally, I think Abba stayed long enough with Kwankwaso,” Galadima said.
7. Galadima’s comments contradict earlier claims by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who alleged that President Tinubu was behind the pressure on Governor Yusuf to join the ruling APC.
