The Kano State Committee on Motor Parks and Other Public Places has seized fake and unregistered drugs worth over ₦200 million during a raid conducted within Kano metropolis.
The operation, led by the Committee Chairman, Major A.A. Usman (Rtd.), followed intelligence reports and formed part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that only safe and approved medicines are sold to the public.
The raid was carried out jointly by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Police, and Immigration Service to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
Speaking after the operation, Major Usman disclosed that the fake drugs were discovered in an abandoned building where they were stored under extreme heat and unhygienic conditions without any health safeguards.
According to him, the drugs lacked certification from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), posing serious health risks, particularly to women and children.
“Storing drugs under excessive heat and in unhygienic conditions can compromise their efficacy and cause serious harm to consumers, especially when such drugs are not approved by relevant authorities,” he said.
He added that the committee would continue to collaborate with security and health agencies to combat the circulation of fake drugs and ensure that those involved in the illegal trade are prosecuted.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Policy and Special Development, Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai, who is also a member of the committee, urged the public to verify the authenticity of medicines before purchasing them and report anyone suspected of selling counterfeit or substandard drugs.
He reiterated that the Kano State Government would not tolerate activities that endanger the health and safety of citizens.
Earlier, the Assistant Commander of Narcotics, NDLEA Kano Command, Ya’u Malam Yakubu, said the confiscated items included 55 cartons of Super Sexy, 144 cartons of Bold Brown/Body Bliss, 70 cartons of Lion King/Hygra, and three sacks of empty packs.
The seizure followed intensified efforts by the Kano State Committee on the Fight Against Drug Trafficking, Arms Smuggling, and Child Trafficking to curb the circulation of counterfeit and harmful substances in the state.
