Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for renovating and equipping Government Secondary School, Bichi, in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, who was represented by the Director-General, Special Duties, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Sani (retd.), described the intervention as a demonstration of effective cooperation between the military and the community.
The project, executed under the NAF’s Special Intervention Project scheme, was commissioned as part of efforts to improve educational facilities and strengthen civil-military relations.
It was undertaken in honour of a former Chief of Air Staff and distinguished son of Kano State, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Sabiu Ibrahim.
The intervention included the renovation and furnishing of two blocks comprising four classrooms, as well as the renovation and equipping of the school clinic and sports office. A new mosque was also constructed.
Yusuf commended the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, for the intervention, describing AVM Ibrahim as a dedicated military officer who served the country with commitment.
Maj. Gen. Sani subsequently commissioned the project on behalf of the governor.
Speaking at the ceremony, Aneke, who was represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, AVM Edward Gabkwet, said the project was part of the NAF’s non-kinetic operations.
He said the initiative was aimed at building trust, promoting cooperation and strengthening relations between the military and communities where it operates.
According to him, improved civil-military relations could also enhance military operations by encouraging communities to cooperate with security agencies.
Aneke said the intervention was also in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He disclosed that 19 projects had so far been completed and commissioned under the Special Intervention Project scheme since its inception, while several others were ongoing across the country.
In his remarks, AVM Ibrahim, who facilitated the project, said the intervention had transformed the school’s previously dilapidated facilities and provided a more conducive learning environment for students.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Aneke as Chief of the Air Staff, saying the appointment contributed to the realisation of the project.
Ibrahim also urged members of the community to promptly report suspicious and unusual activities to security agencies.
He said the project was designed to foster stronger cooperation between the Nigerian Air Force and communities across the country.
