The Kano State Government has dismissed as false and misleading claims by former Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of fear of being denied a second-term ticket under the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the allegation as baseless and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.
The government said the governor’s political realignment was informed by the need to promote peace, unity and sustainable development in Kano State, rather than any fear of losing political opportunity.
It added that the move was a strategic step aimed at strengthening collaboration and ensuring inclusive governance for all residents of the state.
According to the statement, insinuations that the governor acted out of fear ignore his political strength, wide acceptance and track record in office.
The government reaffirmed that the administration remains committed to its “Kano First” agenda, focusing on welfare, infrastructure, economic growth and social stability.
It urged the public to disregard Sagagi’s claims, insisting that they do not reflect the true situation.
The statement further stressed that the administration would not be distracted by what it described as baseless allegations, but would continue to deliver on its mandate to the people of Kano State.
