The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing women’s participation in governance and other political activities across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this on Wednesday when he received the executives and members of the Women in Politics Association, Kano State chapter, in his office.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, described women as the bedrock of the development of every society.
He said the state government would continue to empower women across various sectors, stressing that empowering a woman has a multiplier effect on families and communities.
“It is not in doubt that when you empower one woman, you have empowered a massive number of people in society,” he said.
The governor said his administration had prioritised the welfare and empowerment of women through various programmes, adding that women had been appointed to key positions, including commissioners, Accountant General and Head of the Civil Service, among others.
He assured the women that more appointments would be considered in the near future.
Yusuf also said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had demonstrated its commitment to women’s political participation by giving its State Assembly ticket for the next year’s general election in the Gharin/Tsanyawa constituency to a woman.
He said greater involvement of women in politics would contribute significantly to improving education, healthcare, socio-economic development, morality and other aspects of human development.
The governor appreciated the association for the visit and assured its members that his doors would remain open to them.
He urged the association to redouble its efforts in promoting the policies and programmes of the state government.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the association’s Kano State chapter, Ambassador Rashida Adamu Mai Sa’a, said the delegation was at the Government House to introduce its members and reaffirm their loyalty to Governor Yusuf and his deputy.
She pledged that the association would mobilise its members to work for the success of the APC at all levels in next year’s general election.
According to her, the association plans to secure more than one million votes for the APC through a door-to-door (Gida-Gida) mobilisation campaign across the state.
She, however, appealed to the state government to provide the association with office accommodation to enable it to operate in a conducive environment and effectively discharge its responsibilities.
