The Kano State Ministry of Education has expressed satisfaction over the successful conduct of a refresher training for facilitators under the Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP).
The training, organised by PLAN International with support from the European Union, was aimed at addressing key challenges identified during recent monitoring visits across Local Government Areas (LGAs) participating in the EU-supported project.
The programme is currently being implemented in eight LGAs of the state—Ajingi, Makoda, Minjibir, Kumbotso, Gwale, Nassarawa, Rimin Gado and Tudun Wada—by PLAN International in collaboration with Save the Children International.
Speaking during visits to some of the training centres, the Director of Development Partners Coordination at the ministry, Dr Lukman Tajo Siraj, commended PLAN International for what he described as a timely intervention.
He noted that the refresher training is crucial to strengthening the capacity of facilitators and improving the quality of learning delivery under the ABEP initiative.
Siraj underscored the significance of the programme, pointing out that Kano State has one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children in the country. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children and promoting inclusive and equitable access to basic education.
He also praised the Master Trainers for their effective facilitation and urged participants to give the training the attention it deserves.
The director further expressed the ministry’s appreciation to the European Union for its sustained partnership and support towards advancing education in the state.
In his remarks, the Programme Manager of PLAN International, Mr David Okeh, said the training was designed to address gaps identified during the last monitoring exercise. He added that strengthening facilitators’ skills remains vital to achieving the programme’s desired outcomes.
