The Managing Director of the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Hon. Faisal Mahmud Kabir, has called for closer collaboration between the agency and the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) to improve revenue generation in the state.
Kabir made the call on Thursday when the Chairman of KIRS, Alhaji Bashir Maitama, paid a courtesy visit to his office.
The KAROTA boss said Kano State had the potential to finance its budgetary provisions through its numerous revenue sources, noting that the state’s large population and vibrant economic activities provided opportunities for generating more revenue.
“Kano State is densely populated and daily economic activities are taking place in various sectors of our lives, hence the need to explore untapped revenue sources that could boost our revenue generation drive,” he said.
He urged KIRS to work closely with KAROTA to identify and unlock other sources of revenue for the overall growth and development of the state.
“We (KAROTA) are not a revenue-generating agency but an enforcer of tax laws as provided for in our statutory functions,” Kabir said.
He assured KIRS of the agency’s commitment to working with it towards an aggressive revenue generation drive.
On his part, the KIRS Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Maitama, commended Kabir for the initiative, saying the agency would explore the identified opportunities to achieve the desired objectives.
Maitama explained that his visit to KAROTA headquarters was part of the board’s tour of government agencies and establishments to sensitise them on the need to meet their revenue targets for the 2026 fiscal year.
