Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has urged security agencies countrywide to foster synergy in their operations to enhance overall security.
The Governor made this plea during a courtesy visit by the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on the Nigerian Army.
Represented by his Deputy, Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Governor Yusuf expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in the Northwest Zone, particularly grappling with issues like banditry and kidnapping.
“There is no denying the fact that the ongoing challenges in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kaduna states are not conducive for the people,” remarked the Governor.
Emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts among security outfits, Governor Yusuf highlighted the importance of a synchronized approach before, during, and after operations. He stressed that criminals often flee across state borders, emphasizing that effective synergy would facilitate a comprehensive response to criminal activities.
While noting the relative peace enjoyed in Kano State compared to other states in the Northwest region, the Governor expressed concern about the challenges faced by neighboring states.
The Governor urged the committee to leverage the information gathered during their visit to sustain efforts in ensuring the security of lives and properties in the Northwest region and Nigeria at large. He emphasized the importance of restoring normalcy for citizens to pursue their economic activities without fear.
The Chairman of the Joint Committee on Army, Sen. Abdullahi Mamudu, explained that the purpose of the visit was to oversee the ongoing Army recruitment exercise at Falgore.
He commended the existing relationship between the Kano State Government and the Nigerian Army and expressed gratitude for the state government’s support for the training exercise.
Sen. Mamudu also congratulated the Kano State Government on its recent Supreme Court victory, describing it as a victory for democracy. He extended wishes for God guidance on the Governor to fulfill the mandate of the people.
