Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening ethical standards and professionalism in public information management.
The governor made this known while declaring open a two-day capacity-building workshop for Information and Zonal Information Officers from the 44 local government areas of the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, at the event held in Kano, Yusuf said investment in human capital development remains key to effective governance.
He noted that continuous training enhances skills, boosts morale, and improves productivity, especially in a rapidly changing technological environment.
Yusuf added that his administration would sustain training and retraining programmes at local, national and international levels to equip public servants with the necessary skills for efficient service delivery.
He described Information Officers as critical to promoting transparency, bridging communication gaps between government and citizens, and ensuring access to accurate and timely information amid rising cases of misinformation.
The governor urged the officers to remain proactive in providing feedback on public perception, community challenges and policy impact to support responsive governance.
He also called on public officials to support Information Officers in disseminating government policies and programmes to strengthen democratic processes.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the workshop underscores the ministry’s commitment to professional development and effective information dissemination.
He commended the governor for supporting capacity-building initiatives, noting that such programmes have improved the performance of Information Officers across the state.
Waiya said the training would deepen participants’ understanding of ethical standards, transparency and digital communication strategies.
He urged the officers to uphold professionalism and actively engage the public to build trust in government activities.
The commissioner also pledged continued collaboration with media organisations and stakeholders to enhance communication and capacity development.
