The Kano State Government has received the final report of the six-member fact-finding committee established to investigate the recent decline in the performance of Kano Pillars Football Club and to recommend sustainable measures for the club’s revival.
The committee was inaugurated earlier this month by the Secretary to the State Government on behalf of His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf, following growing concerns over the club’s performance in recent competitions.
It was mandated to conduct a comprehensive review of the technical, administrative, logistical, and financial factors affecting the team, and to propose actionable solutions aimed at restoring its competitive edge.
This was made known in a press release issued to media outlets by the Press Secretary,
Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Tanko Muhammad
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kabiru Dahiru Sule, represented by Malam Ada’u Lawan, stated that the committee carried out an extensive assessment of the club’s operations.
The review covered technical capacity, player welfare, remuneration and match bonuses, logistics, financing, and stakeholder engagement.
Among its key technical findings, the committee emphasized the urgent need to strengthen squad depth by ensuring at least two competent players per position to reduce fatigue and minimize the risk of injuries. It also stressed the importance of a structured and timely payment system for match bonuses as a critical motivational tool to enhance performance and maintain discipline.
On logistics, the committee highlighted the need for reliable and durable vehicles for both home and away fixtures, noting that the current refurbished vehicles are inadequate for optimal team mobility. It further observed that the presence of senior government officials at matches significantly boosts team morale — a factor credited for the team’s improved performance during a recent home fixture attended by top government functionaries.
The committee also expressed optimism over the return of the club’s former coach, under whose leadership Kano Pillars recorded notable achievements across three consecutive seasons. According to the report, his return has rekindled confidence among players and supporters and could signal the beginning of a sustained turnaround for the club.
Additionally, the committee appealed to the State Government to engage with the Nigeria Football Federation regarding the three points deducted from the club following incidents of fan misconduct, noting that corrective measures have since been implemented to address the underlying issues.
Receiving the report on behalf of the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, stated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains deeply concerned about the club’s decline, which informed the timely constitution of the committee.
He described the committee’s work as thorough and commendable, producing credible findings and practical recommendations.
Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim assured that the government would implement the recommendations with “military precision” to ensure swift and effective results. As a demonstration of its commitment, he disclosed that the government is considering a comprehensive overhaul of the club’s transport system, including the possible provision of an additional brand-new vehicle to enhance mobility and logistics.
The Kano State Government reiterates its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in sports administration. It reassures supporters, stakeholders, and the people of Kano State that decisive steps are being taken to reposition Kano Pillars and restore the club to its rightful place as a dominant force in Nigerian football.
The government calls for continued patience, cooperation, and support as it implements the committee’s recommendations for the overall development of sports in the state.
