The Kano State Government has called on Islamic scholars in the state to enlighten the public about its policies and programmes.
The State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, made the appeal while receiving members of the Association of Chief Imams who support the Kwankwasiyya movement in his office.
Dantiye highlighted the critical role of Imams in disseminating key information to the public, particularly during Friday sermons in their various mosques. He urged them to seek clarification before addressing any issues related to government policies or public affairs.
The Commissioner further called on the Ulamas to advise the government on issues that would benefit the people of Kano State. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and Islamic scholars in ensuring the formulation and implementation of policies that serve the interests of the public.
Additionally, Dantiye revealed that plans are underway to organize a sensitization workshop for Islamic scholars. The workshop will focus on government policies, programmes, and effective strategies for public enlightenment.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Association of Chief Imams supporting the Kwankwasiyya movement, Sheikh Gwani Sani Tilo, stated that their visit was to express gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Commissioner for their support. He acknowledged the recognition given to their members for their contributions to the success of the present administration, especially during the election period.
Sheikh Sani Tilo also commended the administration for the prompt payment of monthly allowances to Imams. He, however, appealed to the government to consider increasing the allowances in light of the current economic situation in the country.
The Imam pledged continued prayers for the success of the government and its efforts to fulfill its promises to the people of Kano State.
