Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing the need for a strategic political realignment amid Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
In a press statement released on Sunday, Kwankwaso said his decision takes immediate effect, bringing an end to his role as a leading figure within the party, where he previously served as National Leader and presidential flagbearer during the 2023 general elections.
Describing the move as difficult, Kwankwaso expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve the party and its members. “This was not an easy decision to make,” he noted, emphasizing his longstanding commitment as a loyal member of the NNPP.
The former governor explained that his resignation was driven by the “current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape,” which he said necessitates a shift toward a platform better positioned to deliver meaningful change in Nigeria.
Kwankwaso also extended gratitude to party leadership, specifically acknowledging National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed, as well as the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, and members across all levels of the party structure. He further paid tribute to supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication to the party’s vision.
Despite his departure, Kwankwaso struck a conciliatory tone, expressing willingness to continue collaborating with former colleagues in pursuit of national development. “We shall continue to work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation,” he said.
While he did not disclose his next political destination, his statement strongly संकेत a forthcoming alignment with another political platform ahead of future electoral contests.
Kwankwaso remains a significant figure in Nigerian politics, and his next move is expected to reshape alliances within the country’s political space.
