The lack of proper education and widespread unemployment remain leading factors driving young people into various social vices.
This observation was made by Professor Abdul Hamid Umar Yusuf of Bayero University, Kano, during the monthly meeting of the LUMANA Community Development Association, which serves the communities around Kano’s historic Kurmi Market. The meeting was held in the Lokon Yan Alew a area of Makwarari.
Professor Yusuf, an indigene of the community, emphasized that associations such as LUMANA play a vital role in tackling youth‑related challenges particularly by strengthening moral upbringing, promoting discipline, and encouraging respect for law and order.
He outlined several key measures that, if implemented, could provide sustainable solutions to the growing problems affecting young people across the Kano metropolis.
In his remarks, LUMANA Association Chairman Alhaji Usman Nagoggo stated that the association meets monthly to discuss community matters.
He added that this month’s meeting focused on inaugurating a new committee to oversee educational development in the area.
The meeting concluded with a call for stronger cooperation among all residents, wherever they may be, to support the association’s developmental objectives.
